Setup

Shuffle the deck of 16 cards (8 characters: Princess, Countess, King, Prince, Handmaid, Baron, Priest, Guard). Remove one card from the game face-down (so 15 cards remain). Deal 1 card to each player (2-4 players). Place the remaining deck face-down as a draw pile.

How to Play

  1. On your turn, draw the top card of the deck. You now have 2 cards in hand.
  2. Choose one of the two cards to play face-up in front of you. Resolve its effect.
  3. The other card remains in your hand for the next turn.
  4. Card effects: Guard (1) – name a rank (except Guard); if the opponent has that card, they are out. Priest (2) – look at opponent's hand. Baron (3) – compare hands; player with lower rank is out. Handmaid (4) – you are immune to other players' effects until your next turn. Prince (5) – choose a player (including yourself); that player discards their hand and draws a new card. King (6) – trade hands with another player. Countess (7) – you must play her if you have King or Prince in hand. Princess (8) – if you discard her, you lose immediately.
  5. If a player is eliminated, they show their card.
  6. The round ends when only one player remains or when the deck runs out.

Winning the Game

The player who is the last remaining wins the round. If the deck runs out, the player with the highest rank in hand wins (Princess 8 is highest). First player to win a certain number of rounds (usually 2-4) wins the game.
