Setup
Arrange all the patch tiles in a circle around the board. Place the time track (a spiral) and the two pawns on the start space. Each player takes 5 buttons (currency). The starting player is the one who most recently used a needle.
How to Play
- On your turn, choose one of the next three tiles in the circle (marked by your pawn).
- Pay the button cost on the tile (if any). Then pay time cost (the number of hours on the tile).
- Move your pawn forward that many spaces on the time track.
- Place the tile on your 9x9 player board, overlapping existing tiles if possible (must cover empty spaces).
- If your pawn passes over a button space on the time track, earn buttons equal to the number of buttons on your board (1 per button icon).
- When both players pass the end of the time track, the game ends.
Winning the Game
Each button you have at the end is worth 1 point. Subtract 2 points for each empty space on your board. The player with the highest total wins. If tied, the player with more buttons wins.
Variants & House Rules
Patchwork Express uses a smaller board and shorter time track. Patchwork Americana has different tile shapes.
