"Describe the word without using the forbidden clues — easier said than done."
Back to Game Library
Setup
Shuffle the deck of word cards. Each card has a main word (the word to guess) and a list of 5 'taboo' words that cannot be used. Divide players into two teams. Place the buzzer (or a timer) nearby. Choose a first clue-giver.
How to Play
- The clue-giver draws a card and tries to get their team to say the main word without using any of the taboo words.
- The clue-giver cannot use gestures, sounds, or rhymes.
- If the clue-giver says a taboo word, the opposing team hits the buzzer and the card is discarded (no point).
- The clue-giver may pass (skip) the card, but loses a point (or just moves to the next card).
- The team has 60 seconds to guess as many words as possible.
- For each correct guess, the team keeps the card (1 point).
- After the timer ends, the other team takes a turn.
- The game continues for a set number of rounds (usually 4-6).
Winning the Game
The team with the most points (cards) at the end wins. Points are cumulative over rounds.
